Detox: the Clean Program!

With all the food and drinks overdoses that happened to me in December and the start of the new year and my enthusiasm for a fresh new mind and body, I thought it was time to think about detoxing a little bit. While several doctors warn against the dangers of detox programs (mainly the fact that you should not do it too often), I guess that detoxing every 32 years should be ok for me. 

That’s how I decided to enquire about detox in general and the Ferraris of detox programs in particular: the Clean Program (followed by the detox queen, Gwyneth Paltrow).

So.. what is a Detox Diet (also called a Cleansing Diet)? A detox program is a special diet which aims at removing toxins from your body. The idea is to eat food that aids the function of the lymph, kidneys, and liver and avoid all foods that hinder these organs.

What is the Clean Program? The Clean Program is a special detox diet that has been designed by  a cardiovascular doctor, Dr.Junger, who worked at Lenox Hill Hospital, NYC. Originally from Uruguay, Dr.Junger started to become sick when he moved to live in NYC with the drastic changes in his lifestyle and diet so he decided to design an alternative solution to his health problems. His findings are the subject of his first book, Clean: The Revolutionary Program To Restore the Body’s Natural Ability to Heal Itself, where he explains how detoxification and cleansing have been around for thousands of years but that it is now more than ever that it is important.

How does it work? There is a 3 days Pre-Cleanse where you eat normally but just start to follow a special diet aimed at removing all bad food which they call the “Elimination Diet“. Then, while still following the Elimination Diet, you do the Cleanse for 21 days: you have a Cleanse Shake for breakfast, a normal meal for lunch, a Cleanse Shake for dinner and your Supplements (Probiotics to help rebuild the immune system and throughout the day and Enzymes to help break down the digest food). Lastly, there is a 7 days Reintroductions Process where you identify which food is good or bad for you.

What is special about this program? Its support network. Clean Coaches actually follow you through the Clean Program and you also get an email and phone support in case you are about to break or just have a question. In addition, you also get access to 42,000+ member online community where you can exchange detox tips and recipes and support. I had a look at it and it is full of inspiring stories about how to change and be the best you can both inside and outside.. This program is more than a detox.. it is a whole philosophical experience! ;)

Clean Program

How often should I cleanse? They recommend doing the 21 days Clean Program at least once a year and do mini-cleanses in between of just 1 day or 7 days, whenever you feel your digestive system need a rest or reboots of energy.

    As an alternative: warm cup of water with lemon juice or glass of water with apple cider vinegar 30min before breakfast – protein breakfast – avoid meat for dinner – avoid drinking water with the meals and exclude milk, wheat products, sugar caffeine for a week….guaranteed results!
