Winter Ride: On a Horse Carriage in Bavaria!

Horse Sleigh BavariaJust before Christmas, my boyfriend and I went to visit Bavaria and its wonderful castles (one of which is so charming that Walt Disney copied it to create the castle of the Sleeping Beauty!).

The first thing we did upon arriving however was to take a horse drawn sleigh tour of the area as I thought it was a charming way to get a little feel and preview what was waiting for us this weekend..

The ride lasted one hour and took us through the snowy Alpine foothills, frozen lakes, Bavarian forests where birds were singing just as in movies (and we even got to see a deer!!). As sunset was approaching, we got magical views of the lit-up Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles in the background too. All in the frosty fresh air of Bavaria. I felt like in The Sound of Music. Or Sissi.

A truly cool experience if you are a romantic!

Travel Tip #1: If interested, I’d advise you to book your horse-drawn carriage ride with the Josef Kotz family. I did not try the others but was more than satisfied with them and this one is ideally located in the village of Schwangau, at the foothills of the castles. www.kutschbetrieb-kotz.de.

Travel Tip #2: Try to do it about 1h before sunset.. to get even most beautiful views.

Travel Tip #3: Sorry for the blunt honesty.. but in case you tried one of their amazing (big) German beer just before, make sure to visit the powder room prior to embarking on your carriage. Otherwise, it might not be as romantic as it sounds ;)
