Yesterday I had the very great chance to spend an afternoon in the company of Dany Sanz, the creator and founder of the brand Make Up For Ever. This was the perfect opportunity for me to meet with an extraordinary woman who in about 25 years of time built a brand with more than 1,500 references and which would be acquired by LVMH. Her story is not only extremely interesting.. it is inspiring! Read the below!
Dany Sanz now extraordinary life all started when she was a young graduate from the Fine Art Academy in Paris with what she thought was.. not much future! After studying painting and sculpture, the only thing she knew was that she wanted to do something more practical and concrete in life than act as a sculptor or painter. Jumping from one small job to another, it all started out when she was once recruited to work on the decors of a theatre play and when the makeup team – who she was not very much talking too at that time! – turned to her, as a painter, to ask her to try to do some face and body paintings on the actors, something which the makeup artists did not consider to be their job and which they did not know how to do. One of the thing about Dany Sanz is her strong will and positive attitude, so where others said “sorry I can’t/don’t know”, she just gave it a go and talented as she is, the results were of course marvellous!
Here you can admire on Neptune the wonderful skills of the Make Up For Ever team for body painting!
Anyway, so this little job for this theatre play attracted her quite a lot of publicity as, back in the 1980’s, no one ever did body or face painting before and Dany Sanz then improved herself ‘face and body painter’, ‘painting’ dancers for Parisian night clubs like the Palace (and yes she confessed: it was all back in the 1980’s so.. a crazy time where everyone wanted to try unusual and new things!), ‘painting’ then special effects on actors for the movies etc. So it was only after this, that, tired of having to teach people around her her special ‘painting’ technique on a one-to-one basis and not finding the right materials that the eventually founded a make up scademy and makeup brand.. with the success that we all know now.
Inspiring.. no? But ok, enough with the talk.. now enjoy the pictures of the events!
The event was at the very chic Boscolo Hotel in Milan.
The team of makeup artists was on duty to present the new products of the brand. I personally loved all their waterproof products for this summer.. I could not believe how many different waterproof products and colours declinations this brand has! And when you know that they tested their products at the Miami Mercedes-benz Fashion Week Swim.. well I trust they should work on me this summer too ;)
I took with me an Acqua Shadow pencil.. cause it is just so easy to use (with my fingers of course) and put in my bag when travelling (which I plan on doing a lot this summer believe me..)!
Look at these colours.. jez.. really can’t wait to try a few of them this summer – summer please come now!!
Anyway, back to the event: me talking with Dany Sanz..
