Now this post is for all the Art and Design fans who are wondering what is taking place in Milan exactly during Milan Design Week! There is indeed hundreds of various events, temporary pop up stores, design installations and parties.. and it may not be easy on the first look to understand what is most exceptional from what is maybe less.. but if you are interested, here is a little selection of the top 3 Art / Design Installations which I saw so far this week. Hope you enjoy and will be able to get a bit of the “design vibe” which is here with us this week!
A huge artificial sun is lighting up downtown Milan’s nights! Carrera indeed commissioned a gigantic luminescent dome to put on top of the rooftop of the Temporary Museum for New Design Fair. In the evening, a video wall in the nearby street informs passers-by of the events taking place in the dome and invite them to come up!
The second installation is the one that Canon commissioned from designers Ryuji Nakamura, Mintdesigns and Nobuhiro Shimura (and curated by Toshiki Kiriyama) to create installations re-creating forests. Through an absolutely magical combination of light effects, colours and sounds, the artists succeeded to project visitors in the middle of mysterical virtual forests. The sensations are exceptional!
The third installation is the one sponsored by Samsung called “Four minutes into the Future“. Star architect Italo Rota created a virtual “household”. When you are in the room, you can not see much: it is only a big room with a few dull grey pieces of furnitures here and there.. but the team then gives you a tablet and then you start to see, virtually, through the screen the life of this household!
Lastly, two quotes which were on the wall at the Temporary Museum for New Design and which I liked.. Let me know what you think ;)
