Yesterday, I was invited to follow with my friend Ilaria and several other Italian bloggers a makeup training given by Rajan Tolomei. Rajan is Head Make-Up Artist and Creative Director at Max Factor and hence is a a sort of celebrity in the makeup world..
Rajan’s favourite mantra is “There is no ugly woman, just lazy ones” from Helena Rubinsten.. I adore him!
His teaching was tough: for the application of the foundation, what we had to achieve was “bionic silky perfection” no less!! Did you hear me ladies.. that’s what we should aim for – do not settle for anything less! ;)
What Rajan wanted to convey to us was to teach us ‘a feeling‘, i.e. a certain way to use your brushes.. which should be much similar to the way painters do..
Rajan also taught us his way to analyse things: healthiness should come from the blush, sensuality from the eyes and sexiness and age from the lips.. hence the blush should not be there to be sexy but just to give a hint of freshness and healthy touch! Damn true. I will never use my blush the same way, promise.
This is Carmello Grassi, Rajan’s assistant.. who I thought was damn cute (and I hope he never ever read this post!).
After 3 hours of work (!!), we had a little break to have dinner with the other girls. This is the adorable Alessia from the blog Rose in the wind by the way.
Then we went back to apply the final touch: the lipstick! Here is the result.. what do you think? A little bit over the top.. well maybe no, I would not have normally played it strong eyes, strong lips.. but it would have been a shame not to learn the lipstick technique.. and the result is quite astonishing for me, no?
I discovered that Max Factor had indeed quite a very good website with tutorials, tricks and “behind the scenes” snaps of catwalk shows, etc (after all it is “the makeup of makeup artists’ so yes, normal..). So if you want further tricks on how to apply your makeup or check out the Nude Looks they created for the Balenciaga show (amazing!), check it out here!
