So.. I was telling you the other day that it was “Press Day season” here in Milan.. but what exactly is a Press Day and what happens there? Well, a Press Day is simply a day where the shops or showrooms open their doors to journalists and bloggers for them to come check on the latest collections of the brands they represent (if you still don’t know what a showroom is – though you should totally if you were reading this blog as you should!! – check out my other post on this here).
How do you get invited to Press Day? Well by their Press Team of course! I would say that the most difficult part is to find out the contact details for the Press Team of the showrooms/shops/brands that interest you (though you can find a lot by just using google). After, simply send them an email presenting your blog and ask them if you could come by visit them at their next Press Day… and let your natural charm act! One last thing on the Press Team: pls note that there is often someone looking after the “senior accounts” and someone looking after the “junior accounts“.. so if you are not Garance Dore yet, maybe start with the junior account contact ;)
Usually, the showroom will also give you marketing materials for the various brands they represent.. this is where you find all the information on the history/philosophy of the brands, the inspiration for the new collection as well as many nice pictures which you can use to write your article after. And sometimes, in addition you also get a few samples.. well you need to know what you are writing about right? ;)
Press Day seasons vary quite a bit.. depending on the showroom or shops, it can be twice or four times a year (for each season) and sometimes there are even special Press Day around Christmas for the Christmas collections (as it is around this time of the year that the sells are really high).
